    Developed by the U.S. Department of Labor, the site is part of a suite of web-based employment, career and training portals.

    About 1.2 million.

    Cost to Employers:
    Post unlimited jobs and search the resume database for free.

    Industry focus:
    Job openings, most of which are full-time and in the private sector, come from all over the country and represent a wide range of professional and technical positions.

    Strengths:
    Basic, easy-to-use site; can search by keyword, job number, military code or occupation. The 22 career categories can be subdivided into more specific jobs.

    Weaknesses:
    Bare bones job listings; doesn’t offer "extras" like career counseling or feature articles.

Yahoo! HotJobs.com

    In a nutshell:
    Calls itself the "one-stop career solutions resource" with job listings and resume postings.

    Number of jobs listed:
    More than 400,000.

    Cost to Employers:
    $275 per posting for 30 days.

    Industry focus:
    Can search by 27 job types, including accounting and finance, administrative, entry level, health, legal, retail, marketing, start-up and technology.

    Strengths:
    Register with myHotJobs to set up a personalized job search, track your resume statistics or keep your posted resume private.

    Weaknesses:
    Extras not easily accessible; you must dig around site to find them.

Monster.com

    In a nutshell:
    The result of a 1999 merger between The Monster Board and Online Career Center. Until 2004 when CareerBuilder.com surpassed them, was the #1 job site.

    Number of jobs listed:
    More than 400,000.

    Cost to Employers:
    $335 per listing for 60 days. Special membership benefits available.

    Industry focus:
    Search 42 job categories, all of which offer a wide variety of positions.

    Strengths:
    International network with 15 countries; detailed job listings; great career resources, including portals for entry-level and executive jobs.

    Weaknesses:
    With such a large database, some less popular careers are excluded or have few job listings
