According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the three most populous states now include California (as the most populated, with 36.4 million citizens), Texas (23.5 million citizens) and New York (rounding out the top three with 19.3 million citizens). The smallest three states are now Wyoming (about half a million citizens), Vermont (about 620,000 citizens) and North Dakota (a little over 630,000).
