Many Americans cannot fit a full-time, 40 hours per week job into their schedules or lifestyles. These people may include stay-at-home parents, recent retirees or people who enjoy regular volunteering. According to Kate Lorenz, editor at CareerBuilder.com, there are plenty of part-time career opportunities that include benefits such as health insurance or paid time off. Read more about the following industries, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, that allow employees to work part-time, but receive full-time benefits.
- National Delivery Companies rely heavily upon part-time workers to keep their packages moving. Companies such as UPS, DHL and FedEx utilize a part-time workforce to load, unload, sort and deliver packages to their customers. UPS gives its part-time employees full healthcare benefits, including dental, vision, disability and life insurance for the employees and their dependents. These employees may also take paid vacation time or participate in stock options and a 401(k) program. UPS also offers a tuition assistance program.
Current Retail Employment Opportunities
- The Retail Industry also depends on part-time employees to staff department stores at many nationwide locations. Stores such as JCPenny, Macy’s, Walgreens and Target offer benefits to part-time staff. Walgreens, for example, gives part-timers who work at least 20 hours per week paid vacation time and discounts on prescription drug co-pays. For employees who work at least 30 hours, the company offers full-time benefits: medical, dental, life and disability insurance.
- Healthcare Organizations run with the assistance of part-time employees. Both hospitals and off-site medical treatment facilities such as therapist, dentist and physician offices hire part-time workers. One such facility is Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, where at least 800 of its 5,000 employees work part-time. These employees receive full healthcare benefits plus paid time off, tuition assistance, pension and 401(k) plans. Many registered nursing positions nationwide are part-time in order to permit flexible schedules and rotations.
- Many Government Positions are part-time, including employment opportunities at your local post office, where a part-time job as a mail delivery staffer may be open. These workers often substitute for the regular mail deliverers. Benefits include overtime pay, additional training and sick leave. Additional part-time government positions may be found within the National Park Service or your local government.
- Corporate Organizations have learned to be more flexible with employee schedules. As more fathers take on a lead parenting role and more mothers remain in the work force, companies such as MetLife and the SAS Institute have created job sharing or part-time positions that receive company benefits. Research company policy regarding case-by-case options for part-time employment and the included benefit packages.

that not good that people cant get a full time job
Remember that the government part-time postitions are very seasonal. If you are looking for a part time job at the post office, only expect it during the holiday rush from late November to early January. Otherwise it’s not going to be easy to land a part-time gig at your local PO.
