June 2007 Employment Report

employer-hand-shake Recent business services research from Baird Human Capital Services indicates that the United States is currently supporting a “very healthy labor market.” The report also stated that there are “generally positive implications” for employment opportunities. The positive report was consistent with past reports and indicates that growth has generally continued in the job market. According to the report, “key areas of strength were education and health services” which is wonderful news for people who are currently seeking employment in those industries. Employment opportunities also increased in government and leisure and hospitality. There was an “unexpected increase” in construction employment, with a gain of 13,000 jobs. The future looks bright for people seeking employment in one of the aforementioned industries.

Education jobs include positions as elementary, middle and high school teachers in all subjects. Math and science teachers are especially in demand throughout the United States. Special education teachers are also needed. Many recent college graduates can find work as teachers’ aides, where valuable experience can be gained before moving into their own classroom. Job opportunities in the education field are not limited to primary and secondary education.

Colleges and universities across the nation need professors and instructors as well. Engineering, computer and information technology instructors are in especially high demand as positions in these fields continue to open. Health services occupations offer even more variety than education positions. Health care positions that continue to grow faster than average, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, include physical therapist assistants, home health aides, medical assistants and physician assistants. These are only some of the expanding positions in the health care field. Each of these positions requires a unique amount of training and certification. Physician assistants, for example, must attain a four year bachelor’s degree before pursuing additional training and taking a national exam. Home health aides, on the other hand, may gain training on the job after receiving a two year associate’s degree. These positions offer a wide range of responsibilities and opportunities and are very rewarding. Positions in government offer a lot of benefits and rewards. There are employment opportunities in this industry that will relate to all kinds of degrees and training. The best way to secure a government job is to prepare your documents ahead of time and know what you might like to do.

There are job opportunities at every level of experience in this industry. This is a wonderful industry for people who enjoy working with others and coordinating a service based industry.
