Fun Things to Do at Work

Bored at Work? Look No Further.

Most all of us have experienced a case of the Mondays or had “just one of those days” where it seemed like the hands of the clock couldn’t possibly move any slower.  Even for those of us who truly love our jobs, there will always be a time when you are just plain old bored.  If you are bored on the job, here are some fun things to do at work to help pass the time.

  • Listen to music on an MP3 player (using headphones, of course)

Labor Day

History and Statistics for Labor Day 2009

Labor Day is more than just a day that marks the first football games of the season, department store sales and the end of summer.  Labor Day is a day to celebrate the achievements of American workers.  Labor Day is not the typical holiday that honors American heroes or the men and women who have served in our military — Labor Day is a holiday that recognizes you, the American worker.  The Central Labor Union of New York planned the first Labor Day celebration in 1882, which included a Labor Day parade followed by a picnic with music and speeches.  Labor Day was made a federal holiday in 1894 by President Grover Cleveland.  While Labor Day was originally associated with labor union activities, over the years it has become more of a day for leisure and a time to rest from hard work.  Every year, Labor Day is celebrated on the first Monday of September, and Labor Day 2009 is on September 7th. …continue reading Labor Day

Teacher Salaries by State

teacher-teaching-young-studentsEvery few years the American Federation of Teachers releases a Teacher Salary Trends report about teacher salaries across the United States.  This information helps teachers decide where to teach and how much they should earn.  The latest report indicated that the average teacher salary was $47,602.  The Federation indicated that unfortunately, teachers are struggling to find housing in their areas that they can afford on their salaries.  As more teachers pursue additional education after receiving their bachelor’s degree, their student loan debt increases dramatically.  New teachers may not start at an average teacher salary and could therefore struggle even more than veteran teachers, who may have higher salaries. …continue reading Teacher Salaries by State
