Job Description

The Associate Marketing Manager has list responsibilities for a moderate sized product line, and is a blend of the Marketing Coordinator and Marketing Manager positions. This role allows individuals to gradually expand skills and knowledge in list management and general marketing. The position reports into the Marketing Director. 

 
 
This individual handles full marketing responsibility for a list of selected disciplines and works with a Marketing Manager to provide full support of coordinator responsibilities on assigned lists. The Associate Marketing Manager also provides support in all areas of marketing planning and execution for his/her lists. In addition, this individual maintains information resources, prepares and communicates product information, builds customer databases, maintains product information, tracks sales, writes monthly reports, and provides support to customers and sales forces and handles the promotion responsibility of assigned lists.  
 
Essential Duties: 
  
Market Planning Process
v      Develop and implement Marketing Plans for their assigned product line with input from Editorial partners and under the direction of an Executive Marketing Manager.
 
Product Training
Product training for their assigned list to Cengage Learning sales forces to include the following duties:
v      Handle product presentations at the national sales meetings for their list.
v      Prepare product sales kits for sales force use.
v      Travel to key accounts to assist in closing adoptions and enhance sales skills of representatives in selling specific product line.
v      Host and implement online product training sessions (i.e. WebEx events)
v      Work with appropriate Channel Managers to establish strategies and training for Channel Sales Teams â€" when appropriate. Represents product team as Channels department liaison.
 
Promotions
v      Coordinate and lead marketing launch meetings acting as a voice of the market providing specific marketing and promotional strategies and recommendations on product covers, internal layout and design, and text/package features. Works with input from Acquisitions Editor and Developmental Editor to communicate the unique features that differentiate the product and why it is appropriate for market segment.
v      Coordinate promotional and advertising campaigns: Brochures, Campaign Letters, Catalog Copy, Discipline Newsletters, etc.
v      Design methods to close business through campaign letters, special bundling, and price discounts.
v      Establish on-going relationships with authors. Work with them to provide product information for sales force formulating product information into sales features and Selling Strategies. Coordinate author travel to assist in closing adoptions. Work with them to find sales leads/contacts within the discipline.
v      Communicates qualified sales leads to reps.
  
System Responsibilities
v      Maintain up-to-date and accurate information in product databases.
v      Maintain current and accurate product information on product information bulletin board.
v      Understand and has expertise in working in our sales and marketing databases for the purposes of analyzing sales and market trends
 
Reporting Responsibilities
v      Provide update on sales analysis, market trends, competition, customer issues and product issues in monthly report to EMM.
v      Submit timely and accurate report of expenses incurred during business travel to their Manager.
v      Complete other reports as required by their Manager or Director of Marketing.
  
Communications
v      Support sales, communicates product information via phone, web sites, decision sites, and marketing databases.
v      Identify needs of top target customers, and provide the necessary support to help secure the adoption.
v      Maintain knowledge of Team products and systems, with an ability to recognize and maximize sales opportunities through various forms of communication.
 
Marketing Information Development and Support
v      Work with Marketing Communications Manager to write, edit, and design marketing materials (catalogs, brochures, sales manual pages, Internet pages)
v      Provide and track adoption reports, creates customer mailing lists from databases, as well as works with editorial to pull review target lists.
v      Provide information and page proof support to the channel group as needed.
  
Product Database
Create and edit marketing information into appropriate databases for the list under his/her responsibility.


Job Requirements

Basic
 
  • Bachelor's degree in related field. 
  • 1-2 years experience in sales and/or marketing 
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem solving skills required.
  • Strong customer focus.
  • Ability to work effectively with internal/external customers.
  • Ability/desire to continuously learn and improve through formalized study or self-study of publishing/marketing industry trends to share with team members 
  • Computer skills required with proficiency in MS Office Suite.
 
Preferred
  •   1-2 years experience in the college textbook industry.
