Job Description

1. Manages all biomedical equipment functions to ensure that programs meet all
applicable standards, including Joint Commission and governmental regulations.
2. Selects, trains, motivates, and evaluates assigned staff to ensure maximum utilization of individual and group capabilities, while providing optimal service to internal and external customers.
3. Identifies and analyzes the designs of jobs, work processes and flows for the biomedical area and implements appropriate changes to improve work effectiveness, productivity, and efficiency.
4. Responsible for incident investigation and reports on all biomedical equipment incidents. Represents hospital as a legal witness in biomedical equipment related legal actions to ensure that all equipment incidents are properly documented and the hospital has a witness for legal actions relating to biomedical equipment.
5. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the biomedical engineering field by attending seminars and workshops, reading professional journals and integrates this knowledge as appropriate into the job. Ensures that assigned employees receive opportunities to further their knowledge to ensure that professional knowledge is current.
6. Responsible for engineering department capital equipment inventory and materials
transfers. Reviews purchase specifications prior to bids to assure suppliers have
appropriate information. Responsible for biomedical laboratory evaluation reports to
ensure all necessary equipment has been evaluated with regard to maintenance issues and function.
7. Assists with the development, implementation, and monitoring of annual goals and
objectives for the engineering department and biomedical area to support the missions and objectives of the engineering department, biomedical area, and PHHS.
8. Assists with the development and monitoring of annual departmental and biomedical area budgets to ensure that the biomedical area has the necessary funds to carry out its goals and objectives that have been established.
9. Maintains a positive working relationship with job-related contacts such as
management, vendors, other hospitals, and employees to ensure that all job contacts
are pleasant and productive.
10. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the Biomedical area. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of
accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and
guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding.


Job Requirements

Education/Experience:

Must have an Associate's Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology plus seven

years of diverse experience, including maintenance, application, specification,

evaluation, and selection of clinical biomedical equipment to include two years of

supervisory experience; OR, must have taken a course of study in vocational

electronics and eight years of diverse experience including maintenance, application,

specification, evaluation, and selection of biomedical equipment to include two years of supervisory experience.


Skills or Special Abilities:

Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of electronics, pneumatics, and mechanics as

related to the service of medical equipment. Must be able to demonstrate management skills. Must possess computer skills, including programming skills. Must possess good oral and written communication skills.
