Job Summary: This job is responsible for assisting with patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse; performs data entry, unit secretarial functions, and equipment processing.Essential Duties: - Provides patient care to an assigned patient population; this includes but is not limited to: vital signs, ADLs, toileting, and ambulation.
- Uses equipment to conduct testing and records results. This may include, but is not limited to: EKGs, incentive spirometry, specimen collection and point of care testing.
- Contributes to patient safety through adherence to established standards.
- Verifies and updates patient data daily in information systems.
- Enters and transcribes orders into computer system and onto appropriate forms so that patient information is current
- Assists with patient admissions, discharges, transfers and patient room preparation.
- Processes all admissions, discharges, transfers and charges within the assigned unit.
- Maintains unit specific records as assigned. This may include, but is not limited to, unit log books, staffing sheets and chart audits.
- Keeps unit stocked, neat, organized; cleans equipment and attends to general maintenance of unit.
- Contributes to the productivity and professional environment of the department.
- Identifies opportunities for and participates in Performance Improvement.
Job Requirements
Education: - High school diploma or graduate equivalent diploma (GED) required.
- Completion of nursing assistant program and/or equivalent experience is required.
Experience:- Certified nursing assistant program and one year experience as a Nursing Assistant, in a medical setting, within the last three years is preferred.
- Prefer experience in a specialty unit.
- Preference is given toward applicants with experience as both a Nursing Assistant and Unit Secretary.
License/Certification: - CPR certification required.
- Must be registered by the State Nursing Commission as a Nursing Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant..
