Maxim Health Information Services (MHIS), a subsidiary of Maxim Healthcare Services, was formulated in 1999 to address the growing needs of health information management (HIM) in healthcare facilities.  MHIS provides superior quality coding, auditing, and clinical documentation improvement services to organizations across the country, either on-site or remotely. 
 
MHIS is seeking a Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Manager to assist in the creation, implementation and maintenance of  MHIS's Clinical Documentation Improvement ( MHIS CDI) Program.  This position will work with and report to the MHIS CDI Sr. Director.  This position will also work with and take direction from key leadership roles in MHIS (National Director, General Manager, Marketing Director and HIM Director). 
 
The Primary role of the MHIS CDI Manager is assist in the development of MHIS CDI tools, lead client initiatives, be a subject matter expert in CDI, lead CDI engagements and manage the MHIS CDI team.  Client and employee communications are always provided with professionalism.  The candidate applying for this position must have a strong consulting background in leading/managing CDI projects with significant experience providing physician presentations in CDI concepts.
 
This position will either be based out of the Cleveland, OH MHIS office or it may also operate as a remote position.  These positions will report directly to the Senior Director of MHIS CDI.

 
Basic CDI Program understanding:
The CDI program's objective is to facilitate communication and collaboration among client identified coders, physicians, utilization nurses and MHIS clients in order to identify documentation opportunities and then acquire complete clinical information in the medical record enabling HIM to reflect accurate code and MS-DRG assignments, as well as appropriate severity of illness, risk of mortality, POA code, and RAC required documentation.  By focusing on these efforts and striving to eliminate documentation gaps, the CDI Program will provide clients with accurate and compliant documentation resulting in appropriate healthcare facility reimbursement.    
 
This position is key for MHIS CDI.  The implementation and maintenance of the Clinical Documentation Improvement Program will rely on this person's expertise and experience, and this person will have many important responsibilities and must be capable of taking on a strong leadership role.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
 
Responsibilities of the MHIS CDI Manager or CDI Consultant:
Using clinical and ICD-9 coding knowledge base:

  • Assist with the development of materials and ongoing training for MHIS sales staff
  • Assist with the development of CDI materials related to client needs
  • Manage client CDI projects in all capacities as needed
  • Lead MHIS CDI personnel as needed
  • Consistently and diligently ensure accuracy and compliance in all consulting efforts with the client
  • Assist with the generation of accurate reports for the client upon the closing of each case.
  • Follow all Maxim employee guidelines as identified in the Maxim employee handbook
  • Other duties as assigned


Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements:
Two types of credentials are acceptable:

  • HIM professional candidates must be credentialed as an RHIA, RHIT, CCS and have experience in ICD-9CM hospital based coding.  HIM management experience is a plus.
  • Clinical candidates must be credentialed as an MD, PA, RN, BSN, (C-CDIS is a plus).  
  • Strong clinical background in Med-Surg, ICU or Surgery experience is a must. 

For both HIM and Nursing candidates - optional but a large plus:
  • Case Management / Utilization review experience
  • Clinical Documentation Specialist Hospital experience
  • Certification as a Certified Documentation Improvement Specialist
  • Worked as a CDI Consultant
 
Nursing Candidates and HIM professional candidates must:
  • Have a minimum of five years clinical documentation improvement experience
  • Be knowledgeable and capable to apply / incorporate coding and clinical concepts into all phases of the development, instruction, and communication of the CDI Services
  • Have strong organizational, problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Be able to communicate with physicians and senior leadership in hospitals effectively
  • Have a working knowledge of clinical analytics, helping clients understand reporting results, developing practical day-to day applications / solutions
  • Have excellent written/verbal communication
 
Strong computer skills (spreadsheets, MS Office, word processing, power point, and web-based)
 
Travel requirements:
  • Up to 75% may be required depending on client location contract needs.
  • CDI materials development may be completed from a home location but occasional travel may be required to the Cleveland, OH for development or training as needed.
