PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Responsible for the day-to-day supervisory operations of a patient care unit. Duties may include: “charge nurse" function, provision of hands on patient care, planning for continuity of care for forecasting next shift’s needs, administrative call, and clinical and personnel problem solving.
2. Formulates and ensures optimal patient outcomes and customer satisfaction through ongoing performance initiatives with multidisciplinary teams according to the age/needs of the patient/population served. Duties may include participation in unit and hospital based committees and performance improvement initiatives.
3. Supervises staffing and scheduling; screens and selects staff, addresses performance issues and provides input into corrective action as necessary; provides input into staff performance reviews in a timely and effective manner.
4. Establishes credibility with physicians, management team members, and outside business partners and customers.
5. Participates in a systemic, interdisciplinary, and ongoing evaluation of programs, process improvement, desired client-centered outcome, and organizational outcomes.
6. Ensures safe care to patients, adhering to external regulatory agencies and policies, procedures, and standards of care, within budgetary specifications, including time management, supply management, and accuracy of practice; coordinates resource allocation (supplies, staff, beds, etc.).
7. Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education, skills competency; supports department-based goals, which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
Job Requirements
BASIC FUNCTION: Position responsible for supervising and managing department staff, providing leadership to the nursing unit, and for ensuring positive physician/staff relations. Position oversees and manages the day-to-day operations of the nursing unit and works to ensure clinical quality and patient satisfaction. It may involve participating in the marketing, planning, program development, and community outreach functions as determined by the department director.
Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide clinical care appropriate to the patient populations served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development as it relates to the different life cycles. Specific age groups that are served by this position are circled.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Demonstrates commitment to the Partners-in-Caring process by integrating both Behaviors and Operating Principles in all internal and external customer interactions. Performs duties with accountability, competency, innovation, collaboration, compassion and respect to create the best possible outcomes with exceptional customer experiences.
2. Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing; Bachelor's degree or educational plan to complete degree.
3. Completion of management/leadership training programs as designated by the institution within first year of employment.
4. Current State of Texas license/permit to practice professional nursing.
5. Completion of Basic Life Support or other certification based on nursing unit requirements.
6. Three or more years experience in clinical area practice.
7. One or more years supervisory or management experience.
8. Professional Certification in clinical area or management.
