Cord Blood Laboratory Specialist

South Texas Blood & Tissue Center
is seeking a

Cord Blood Laboratory Specialist

to provide support for the Cord Blood department 

in the Dallas area.

CLOSING DATE: November 23, 2009


Job Summary:  Responsible for the daily administration and support of the Cord Blood Hospital Collection Process, Autologous Cord Blood Program, and distribution of cord blood units for transplantation. 

Responsibilities / Expectations of Cord Blood Laboratory Specialist include:
  • Daily interface with collection facilities on cord blood deferrals and other  discrepancies.
  • Monthly measurement of collection facility.
  • Pick-up and transportation of collected cord blood.
  • Coordinate Autologous Cord Blood program.
  • Responsible for web-based competency management.
  • Responsible for distribution of cord blood units.
  • Utilize the data management system.
  • Maintain adequate level of disposable supplies for hospital coordinators.
  • Maintain annual training competencies for cord blood collections.
  • Assist with the development of cord blood processing procedures according to the AATB, AABB, FACHT, ISO, FDA, and GMP standards.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with the appropriate departmental staff and management keeping him/her informed on issues pertaining to CBU collections.
  • May perform other tasks as assigned.

Job Requirements


Requirements of a Cord Blood Laboratory Specialist include:

 

Education / Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years old with good driving record
  • Bachelor’s Degree in health science and/or related discipline preferred  

  • Must have computer skills to generate excel spreadsheets.

Knowledge / Experience:

  • Two years experience working in a blood banking laboratory involved in the accessioning, processing, storage, and/or distribution functions
  • Three years driving experience required

Licensure / Certifications:

  • Texas Driver's License
