Job Description
Las Colinas Medical Center - Irving - Responsible for the planning, implementing, evaluating, coordinating, directing and supervising all processes and unit based patient care services on a 24 hour basis in accordance with recognized and accepted internal (e.g. unit, department, and hospital) and external (e.g. JCAHO, Medicare, OSHA) standards in order to facilitate optimum care and health education for patients and appropriate utilization of resources which support daily operation in his/her area.
- Demonstrates effective leadership when:
- Staff is given appropriate authority and supported and encouraged to be responsible for the work processes in which they are involved.
- Staff has a sense of ownership and accountability for their work.
- Staff is stimulated to continuously improve their performance thereby improving the organization's performance.
- Identifies and guides human and material resource needs and activities in his/her area.
- Directs area business through the formulation, administration and analysis of the annual budget, strategic and business plans.
- Monitors variance reporting on the monthly financial performance of his/her area.
- Focuses on meeting or exceeding customer expectations.
- Keeps abreast of new knowledge and current trends in the healthcare delivery system; initiates, encourages, and/or cooperates to effect desirable changes in methods or tools used in this area.
- Cooperates with the other Directors/VP's in developing and administering personnel policies.
- Informs and/or interprets policies and procedures to personnel, physicians, patients and visitors.
- Actively participates in committees as indicated, requested or assigned.
- Assists with the development, coordination and provision of educational offerings designed to meet the identified needs of the staff.
- Participates in patient and hospital emergency situations and in disaster preparedness activities.
- Keeps the Chief Nursing Executive informed of progress, needs and problems.
- Represents patient care area both internally and externally.
- Identifies modifications in staffing based on patient acuity and census.
- Helps managers/staff investigates patient, visitor, employee and physician incidents and takes immediate action to resolve it, including follow-up.
- Must be able to perform all essential job functions while on duty, including adequate performance on duty while taking any legally prescribed medications, which may cause adverse reactions to the performance of your essential job skills.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education: Graduation from a school of nursing or appropriate discipline. Bachelor's Degree with a B.S. in Nursing or appropriate discipline. Appropriate experience may be substituted with the approval of the Chief Nursing Officer of the hospital. Current registration as a professional nurse, or appropriate discipline. Experience: The Director must have a minimum of three years clinical experience. Additional clinical experience is desirable. Experience in administrative and/or supervisory roles is also required.
