Director of Alzheimer's Care
Job Description for Director of Alzheimer's Care:
We are currently looking for a Director of Alzheimer's Care to develop, coordinate and implement programs and services for residents with cognitive impairment. This person will be responsible for providing a therapeutic environment that maintains each resident's highest level of physical, social and psychological well-being.
Duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

Manage the special care unit with regards to staffing, planning meetings, reporting, budgeting, and coordinating meetings and councils

Provide all in services and continuing education and pursuing additional educational development opportunities in the area of Alzheimer's and other related disorders, with the goal of becoming a dementia expert

Coordinate the admission and discharge process

Develop and ensure the use of the 24-hour plan for residents

Facilitate communication between the unit, facility, councils, family members and the community

Act as an advocate for residents, obtaining basic needs when the family is unable to

Market the unit's services to other healthcare providers within the community

Provide a therapeutic environment, individual and group services for residents / families, counseling, referrals, and advocacy as needed

Job Requirements for Director of Alzheimer's Care:
Candidates for the Director of Alzheimer's Care position should meet the following requirements:
- Master's / Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, gerontology or therapeutic recreation with at least 2 years geriatric care experience in Alzheimer's and related dementias to meet state licensure requirements
- Candidates without a Master's degree should have at least 5 years direct resident experience
- Ability to relate professionally and positively to facility staff and to work cooperatively with employees at all levels and to represent the facility to the community
- Ability to maintain regular attendance
- Meeting all local health regulations, pass post-offer drug test and pass post-employment physical exam, if required
