Job Description
Now serving New York City for 25 years, City Harvest is the world’s first and New York’s only food rescue organization, dedicated to feeding the city’s hungry men, women and children. This year, City Harvest will collect over 25 million pounds of excess food from all segments of the food industry, including restaurants, grocers, corporate cafeterias, manufacturers, and farms, This food is then delivered free of charge to nearly 600 community programs throughout New York City using a fleet of trucks and bikes as well as volunteers on foot. Each week, City Harvest helps over 260,000 hungry New Yorkers find their next meal.
City Harvest also addresses hunger’s underlying causes by educating individuals, families and communities in the prevention of diet-related diseases, channeling a greater amount of local farm food into high-need areas, enhancing the ability of our agency partners to feed hungry men, women, and children, and supporting affordable access to nutritious food in low-income communities.
We are seeking a Director of Finance who will develop and implement the strategy for the procurement, custody, and investment of funds and cash, and other assets of City Harvest and monitor its effectiveness. This position will focus significantly on the overall integration of finance and other systems, and overall risk assessment, insurances and internal audit ensuring the implementation of policies and procedures according to established accounting and financial standards and practices to ensure City Harvest’s financial integrity and achievement of financial objectives. This position also includes a “futures" perspective, with responsibilities in analyzing, evaluating, planning and budgeting of new business developments and strategic programs, in partnership with the Vice President of Finance and the Senior Leadership Team. The Director of Finance reports directly to the Vice President of Finance and will be based in Midtown. He/she will have direct reports.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage City Harvest’s risk assessment including identifying and addressing risks, optimizing insurance costs and reviewing premium payments.
- Support the Vice President of Finance in leading policies, investments and funding strategies related to retirement plan, strategic and operating reserves and other assets.
- Develop an internal audit process to enable City Harvest to maintain and evaluate cash system controls and procedures.
- Provide in-depth financial analysis, modeling and assessment for City Harvest’s programs, new initiatives, and projects including their impact on cash management, capital investments and debt structure.
- Lead the implementation of the funds, cash and assets strategy consistent with the financial needs for City Harvest, its departments, programs and projects in support of City Harvest’s mission, the Vice President of Finance, the Executive Director and the Senior Leadership Team.
- Support the Vice President of Finance in preparation of financial results for the Board of Director meetings and present at the Board of Director Finance Committee meetings.
- Partner with Vice President of Finance to develop and implement policies and procedures for counterpart and contract review Identify new sources of long term financing in support of City Harvest’s strategic initiatives.
- Maintain revolving credit facilities for financial flexibility and organizational needs.
- Oversee banking relationship and maintain external communications with relevant financial institutions.
- Assist the Vice President of Finance and the Senior Leadership Team in the development and implementation of the organizational strategy, budget and annual objectives.
- Support Vice President of Finance, Executive Director, and Senior Leadership Team in presenting financial results at Board of Director Meetings.
- Communicate to financial staff and organization-wide, about financial, approval and reporting procedures, as well as planned changes.
- Identify key business issues and partner with Senior Leadership to develop and implement solutions.
- Lead the direct reports and develop their capabilities in support of their and City Harvest’s success.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, Master’s Degree in related field or CPA required.
- 7+ years related increasingly responsible experience in Treasury or Finance.
- 3+ years of supervisory experience.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills with a desire and proven ability to communicate with people at all financial knowledge levels.
- Superior analytical and financial analysis capabilities.
- Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills.
- Results oriented; able to understand business requirements and provide solutions under budgetary constraints.
- Experience in effectively communicating complex financial information to senior management.
- Engaged leader with a desire and proven ability to communicate with people at all financial knowledge levels.
- Excellent in conceptualization, planning and implementation.
- Outstanding computer literacy: expert knowledge in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite with knowledge in Great Plains/Dynamics and FRX Forecaster software preferred.
- Outstanding business acumen, balancing organizational objectives with data-based, thorough judgment.
