Job Description
Position description and functions:
· Instructs the Shift Supervisors/ Production Leads on each of the three operating shifts.
· Leads safety effort. Participates in Safety Walk Throughs.
· Utilizes 5S and Lean Manufacturing as key components of the operating work place strategy.
· Drives continuous improvement. Recommends process upgrades to increase yield, reduce the production cycle and manufacturing cost.
· Investigates yield and financial variances using the SAP ERP system. Provides corrective actions as required.
· Develops supervisors and leads.
· Writes procedures to maintain department manuals, work instructions, SOP’s, etc. Review production methods and make necessary changes to improve productivity
· Coordinates the manufacturing side in evaluating and recommending new production equipment and processes. Oversee installation and start-up. Knowledge of PLC based process automation systems is a plus.
· Fills in for Director of Operations when he is out of the office.
· Coordinates with Materials Maintenance for the repair or upgrading of the process equipment.
· Implements the use of SPC to control process operations.
· Handles administrative functions of the production operation, including:
· Implement production schedules to meet production plan requirements and optimize use of available resources
· Personnel related activities, including employee evaluations, performance reviews, and disciplinary action if required.
· Weekly payroll reporting
· Provides technical support to co-workers.
· Is aware of, and assure compliance with, all corporate policies
· Performs additional related duties as required.
Job Requirements
Education, Experience and Training:
· BS in Materials or Chemical Engineering
· 5+ years of experience as a Production Manager in a chemical manufacturing plant
· Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and 5S
· Knowledge of MS Office products.
· Knowledge of PLC based operating systems

Requirements::
· Mechanical aptitude to understand / troubleshoot manufacturing equipment
· Ability to wear all safety equipment as required including safety glasses, safety shoes, breathing air respirator, gloves, etc.
· Spend significant amounts of time directly in the chemical manufacturing area in an environment which may contain dust, dirt, odors, noise, etc.

Working hours:
· 40+ hours per week will typically be necessary to accomplish performance objectives and to provide satisfactory job presence and/or responsiveness.
· Flexibility as to the specific working hours may be required. Must be available for weekend work if required.
