Job Description
?The Director of Technical Architecture for the Enterprise Case and Communications (ECC) portfolio. ECC primarily supports the US Service Delivery Network (SDN) business:
oDisputes Management (Legacy applications, Enterprise Case Management, Fraud)
oCommunications Utility (Enterprise electronic and paper customer communications)
?Serves as an expert resource and trusted advisor to business partners, architecture and development teams and reports into senior architecture leaders; is the senior architecture subject matter expert and steward for the portfolio.
?Works with senior business leaders to understand and deliver business value in support of their strategic and tactical objectives; partners with business operations teams to provide value-add options and influence the development of Business Strategy. Documents the business principles, goals and strategic drivers of the organization.
?Provides consulting and technical expertise to business partners, architects and developers, identifies and drives opportunities for reuse across related portfolios and capabilities. Is a primary change-agent who evolves the portfolio towards the planned target platform architecture. Plays an integral role in building and enhancing the infrastructure and applications required to support the portfolio in terms of robustness, scalability, availability, volatility and efficiency.
?Influences across related portfolios to develop solutions that simplify end to end business processes and drive down business and technologies operational expense.
?Works with senior technology leaders in leading the development and delivery of business driven IT strategies, associated roadmaps, execution plans and related IT investments in periodic planning cycles.
?Leads the definition, design, delivery and refresh of solution architectures, platforms and application level services.
?Manages Lead Technical Architects and leads matrixed vertical architecture teams and developers as the architecture champion for the portfolio.
?Influences technical decisions on all platforms and projects to be consistent with strategic and tactical architecture plans and business outcomes, and reconciles issues appropriately when these levers conflict
?Influences information management, infrastructure and configuration management plans in partnership with the TSO.
?Conducts research on marketplace technology trends and technology assessments of strategic importance
?Provides IT governance oversight and engagement for compliance, security, architecture and solution delivery processes for the portfolio. Provides architectural governance, reviewing projects to ensure alignment with architectural/technical strategy and adherence to standards.
?Contributes content to relevant IT strategies, policies, standards and architectures in partnership with other architects.
?Coordinates with business, information and data architects to deliver comprehensive solutions.
?Partners with the Chief Technology Office in determining an enterprise architectural framework.
?Defines and maintains the application and technology architecture framework for the portfolio to align the strategies with the Enterprise Roadmap and the overall Enterprise Target Architecture.
?Works with responsible development owners to ensure accurate asset information is recorded/documented for the portfolio supported in AIM.
Demonstrated ability to lead and influence up and across staff and business units. A thought-leader, pragmatic in balancing multiple conflicting demands who looks across portfolio and organizational boundaries to identify opportunities, gaps, synergies and value oriented solutions. Has the ability to lead, train, develop and mentor other architects and technologists in a matrixed organization.
?Proven ability to drive results, with emphasis on reducing cycle time and increasing speed to market.
?Work experience in programming, support, design and requirements analysis.
?A deep understanding of architectural concepts, discipline, methods and practices (business, data, application and technical), including issues and trends applicable to American Express and the portfolio.
?Subject Matter Expertise with a proven history in developing and implementing applications in multi-platform, multi-product, multi-vendor, multi-channel environment (spanning mainframe and distributed)
?Broad based technical background, with specific technical depth in at least one distributed development platform, 5+ years experience in Java required and 5+ years experience in Services Oriented Architecture and the composition of high performance services and applications
?Proven relationship skills, collaborative in approach with strong business acumen and the ability to identify key issues and their impact in a broad business and technical context
?Subject Matter Expertise in Customer Relationship Management processes, capabilities and technologies, specifically case management, disputes, fraud, document management and delivery across multiple channels
?Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal, technical and analytical skills. Proficient at developing, presenting, and moving ideas beyond intellectual buy-in, to practical support, investment and commitment for delivery.
?Education preferred:
o A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field
o Equivalent work experience
?Certification preferred:
o American Express Technologies ?Track A?
o TOGAF? (The Open Group Architecture Framework v8 or 9)
o Sun Java Certification
o IBM WebSphere Certification
