Job Description

Position Summary: 
 
Manage and coordinates activities, audits for compliance in the areas of Environmental, Health, and Safety.  The position is responsible for benchmarking and improving the results and success of the programs
 
Essentials Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement the corporate environmental management system.  Collect environmental data for use in determining root-causes of compliance problems and pollution prevention opportunities.  Implement proactive corrective steps.
  • Ensure facility remains in compliance with environmental and safety regulatory requirements (such as permits, waste disposal, State and Federal OSHA).
  • Manage activities to ensure compliance with environmental audits, employee safety programs as well as the maintenance of regulatory compliance policies.
  • Develop, implement and coordinate a safety program plan to include safety assessment, analysis and trends of occupational injuries, equipment and material, audits and incident investigation, behavior based safety and training programs.
  • Coordinate a food safety program to include, facility audits of processing records, lead and manage a weekly food safety audit using a cross functional team, and assist in the training of these programs.
  • Assist in the management of required documentation pertaining to all aspects of food safety quality assurance.
  • Participate in the plants quality program, audits of processing records and quality checks. 
  • Take appropriate action to ensure the integrity and sustained certification of the SQF system.
  • Responsible for reporting and taking any necessary action to prevent food safety and food quality problems from occurring.
  • Responsible for following and enforcing procedures outlined in the Food Safety Plan and the Food Quality Plan and any other programs that support the SQF system and other 3rd party audits.


Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or Environmental and Occupational Science preferred.
  • Five to Ten years of safety and environmental experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment is required.  Union experience preferred.
  • Ability to analyze data, convey findings and implement action plans. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork oriented.
  • Working knowledge and experience with STOP or other behavior based safety program preferred.
  • Working knowledge and experience with LEAN manufacturing techniques preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bilingual (English / Spanish) a plus
  • Strong problem solving skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of PC applications
  • Excellent communication skills.  Ability to foster solid relationships within the facility while achieving key operating objectives as it relates to environmental, health and safety.
  • The EHS Manager or trained designee will be appointed by plant management to cover for absences or vacancies.
  • Minimum travel required
