Job Description The Director of Pharmacy assumes responsibility for the overall functions and professional growth of the Department, and contributes to development of hospital policies and programs. This position plans, directs and coordinates the activities of the pharmacy to ensure efficient, innovative and cost-effective pharmacy service. The Director interprets medication orders: compounds and dispenses medications and other pharmaceutical preparations in accordance with the legal, ethical and professional standards of pharmacy practice. The position cooperates with patients and professional staff in designing, implementing and monitoring a therapy plan to produce specific therapeutic outcomes for the patient. This position uses independent discretion and judgment with respect to supervisory and management decisions and recommendations and provides direct patient care to pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
License or Certification:
License in good standing as a registered pharmacist as required by the state.
Total Education, Vocational Training and Experience:
Minimum two years of relevant work experience in a hospital setting.
Supervisory or management work experience or equivalent is required.
Machines, Equipment Used:
General office equipment such as telephone, copy machine, fax machine, calculator, computer.
Physical Requirements:
Good visual acuity and ability to communicate
Ability to lift, push, pull, and retrieve approximately 10 percent of the time.
Ability to safely lift objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
Ability to demonstrate safe retrieval skills from above head to floor level with objects up to ten pounds.
Skills and Abilities:
Concern for the physical, mental psychological and social needs of patients and families.
Work compatibly in collaboration with associates to provide quality interdisciplinary patient programming.
Ability to speak, read, write and comprehend English.
Ability to coordinate, analyze, observe, make decisions, and meet deadlines in a detail-oriented manner
Ability to communicate effectively in both writing and verbal arenas as well as via email.
Ability to work independently without supervision.
Environmental Conditions:
Indoor, temperature controlled, smoke-free environment. Occasional outdoor exposure
Exposure or potential exposure to blood and body fluids may be required.

May work under stressful circumstances at times.
Proficiency or Productivity Standards:
May be required to work weekdays and/or weekends, evenings and or night shifts if needed to meet deadlines and have on-call availability.
May be required to work on religious and/or legal holidays on scheduled days/shifts.
Will be required to work as necessary during disaster situations, i.e. before, during or after a disaster.
May be required to stay after workday to assist after a disaster situation until relief arrives.
Regular attendance and reporting on time to work is a requirement of position.
