Job Description
The Vice President/Director of Human Resources plans, organizes and directs all aspects of the human resources function, including employment, compensation and employee relations. Oversees the development, recommendation and promotion of comprehensive personnel policies and programs. Provides advice and guidance on the interpretation of personnel policies as they relate to individuals and company objectives. Confers with and implements human resources policies and programs jointly established with the CEO and appropriate company steering committee personnel.
Principal responsibilities:
- Directs the activities of the Human Resources Department. Directs a personnel staff to assist all managers in the recruiting, interviewing, testing, placement, orientaiton, appraisal, transfer, promotion, demotion, or termination of employees. Ensures that uniform standards or working hours, overtime, vacations, leaves of absence, severance pay, holidays and related policy areas are maintained. Directs the administration of the company's compensation program, including employee benefits and the wage and salary function.
- Serves as liaison between Human Resources Department and CEO and Board of Directors to communicate and discuss human resources policies and programs.
- Oversees responses to EEO complaints and represents the Company at hearings or before other agencies or commissions.
- Recommends and develops the company's overall compensation program, including salary administration and benefits programs. Ensures that compensation policies and practices conform to state and federal standards and guidelines. Keeps informed of new trends and developments in alternative methods of compensation and changes in tax law.
- Negotiates contracts with various insurance carriers in order to obtain cost-effective, maximum coverage for employees.
- Ensures the integrity of the human resources information system database. Ensures security of employees' personnel files and other personnel information.
- Prepares, secures approval for and implements operating and expenditure budgets for department, and operates within those guidelines. Assists in the preparation of the Company budget for salary administration and benefits.
- Oversees the selection and development of staff. Interviews, hires, trains, counsels, advises, evaluates the performance of, and when necessary, disciplines and/or discharges personnel. Reviews recommendations of subordinate supervisory staff regarding employee relations issues and provides guidance in resolving complex or sensitive problems. Maintains and promotes positive employee relations in the work environment.
- Collaboratively manages the Company's CHAPs and JCO compliance activities.
Job Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
- Ten or more years of progressively more responsible related work experience including three to five years in a managerial/supervisory capacity necessary in order to gain essential management skills to direct a professional and administrative work group.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of budgeting and expense control to plan, implement, and maximize expenditure of funds while maintaining quality standards.
