Job Description

SUMMARY
An entry-level Installation â€" Repair Technician position designed to develop and perform fundamental skills and aptitudes for the installation and repair of cable television, digital cable and high-speed data services from the tap to inside the house. It is expected that an I/R Technician will complete the I/R Training program and will work independently with a route to further develop and refine the skills taught.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Understand and follows all company safety standards and practices including but not limited to: ladder usage, climbing, lifting, tool usage and vehicle safety. Understands and follows accident reporting procedures. Understands and follows applicable OSHA and National Electric Safety Code rules and regulations.
2. Adheres to all company policies and procedures. Understands and adheres to the Millennium Digital Media installation standards.
3. Performs and develops proficiency in cable television installations, reconnects and disconnects; digital cable installations and cable modem installations.
4. Understands and is proficient in the proper installation and applications for security devices and converters.
5. Able to properly install connectors on different types of drop cable.
6. Performs the installation of new house drops, in-house passive devices, integrated cable, span clamps, ground blocks, ground wires, splitters, cable connectors, converters, and impedance matching transformers.
7. Understands and develops proficiency in the picture quality adjustment, programming and connections with a variety of television sets, VCRs, and other consumer electronic Devices.
8. Reads, records and interprets signal level meters and has the ability to calculate cable signal loss with the use of field strength meter.
9. Able to locate outlets through the use of a toner or volt/ohm meter.
10. Knowledgeable of clearance specifications of cable in relation to roads, driveways and other utilities.
11. Checks, maintains and uses proper safety equipment as issued in conformance with the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) and Company safety rules and regulations.
12. Demonstrates and ensures compliance with National Cable Telecommunications Association Customer Service Standards.
13. Ability to monitor and repair signal leakage from tap to TV.
14. Become familiar with the safe operation of the work vehicle and insures vehicle is properly maintained and in proper running condition.
15. Successfully completes CPR and First Aid course within 12 months of entering this position.
16. Read and understand map symbols and be able to do a design from the tap to inside the home.
17. Is proficient in interacting with customers in a polite, professional manner. Maintains an understanding and is able to effectively communicate system prices, channels, services and packages to customers and potential customers.
18. Seeks opportunities with customers to enhance the company’s image. Maintains a neat appearance, shows respect and respects the customer’s property.
19. Ensures all required paperwork is legible, complete and submitted in a timely manner.
20. Able to troubleshoot drop installations from the tap to the home including all connected Devices. Able to diagnose and troubleshoot digital cable terminals and cable modems.
21. Ensures company vehicle and inventory is organized and well maintained.
22. Able to efficiently setup high-speed data services in all major operating systems and email client programs.
23. Masters the ability to climb and utilize extension ladders and properly maintains all ladders. When required, may need to be certified to climb utility poles with hooks and properly maintain climbing gear.
24. Attempts to sell and upgrade services while in a customer’s home.
25. Responds to and corrects customer service problems by performing analog and digital repairs in homes, multiple dwelling units and commercial properties.
26. Troubleshoots converter and drop line faults, RF modem problems (forward and return, traces problem back to the Tap from the home.
27. Maintain properly calibrated test equipment at all times.
28. May occasionally perform tasks outlined in higher positions.
29. May be scheduled in the system after-hour on-call rotation.


Job Requirements

Requirements
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with basic knowledge and aptitude in electronics; and one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience utilizing mechanical and/or technical capacity preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
1. Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record as determined by the Company.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
1. Must successfully complete the following training courses within the first 90 days of employment:
ï‚§ I/R Technical Training Program or equivalent course and/or experience.
ï‚§ SCTE Customer Service Essentials Program or equivalent course and/or experience.
2. Minimum Proficiencies Test must be completed and pasted within the first 90 days of employment.
3. Excellent communication skills with external and internal customers.
4. Must be committed to providing exceptional customer service (both external and internal) at all times.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Able to work within the specifications, limitations and confines of a ladder. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Ability to work within limited confines, such as crawl spaces.

Compensation will be commensurate to experience.
