Job Description
About the Opportunity
- Support fire extinguisher inspections and extinguisher maintenance in accordance with NFPA 10 and DOT regulations.
- Maintain extinguishers, SCBA’s and safety equipment at power plants and substation facilities in a workable and ready for use condition.
- Hydrostatic testing and recharging of fire protection equipment as needed for change-outs and training.
- Overtime, shiftwork and overnight travel may be required on occasion.
- Fire extinguisher training, writing training programs and scheduling of fire training sessions.
- Utilize computer database to maintain record information.
- Hydrostatic testing of dry chemical, water and carbon dioxide cylinders.
- Perform all aspects of recharging and maintenance of fire protection equipment within the shop area.
- Must understand and follow DOT and CFR requirements.
- Recognizes conditions that affect accuracy and repeatability of methods and make the appropriate adjustments to ensure correct results.
- Instruct classroom and live fire training as required.
- Assist in work of higher classification, as assigned, and perform other similar and less skilled tasks as assigned.
Job Requirements
Qualifications - High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree preferred.
- State of Ohio, NFPA 10 portable fire extinguisher maintenance certification with experience in industrial fire maintenance/inspections for 3 years. A minimum of three/six year experience and certification, NFPA 10
- Excellent problem solving skills and initiative to learn.
- Must be able to lead others through thorough understanding of projects by carrying out assignments with minimal or no supervision.
- Must have demonstrated teamwork/adaptability, initiative, creativity, dependability, good judgment and good work ethic.
- Must be proficient in the area of technical specialization. Skills shall include: Job coordination, ensuring of training lower technicians, analysis, data review/reporting, approval, quality assurance/control, etc.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Must be able to work on open grating at various heights.
- Previous classroom training as an Instructor desired
