Indian Rivers is a comprehensive mental health center; 100% of our services are devoted to providing mental health prevention and treatment to the citizen's of Bibb, Pickens, and Tuscaloosa counties.

Our Mental Illness division provides an array of residential services ranging from a short term crisis residential unit to supported apartment living. Our current residential capacity is 73 community based beds. We provide outpatient services such as psychotherapy and psychiatric care in locations across our service area. We provide case management and skills training service to those's working toward recovery but continue to require supports to maintain independent living status within the community. We also provide crisis intervention service available 24 hours, 7 days per week for those in psychiatric crisis.
Our Mental Retardation division provides residential service to 62 individuals living in the community in a supervised setting. Community based skills training is also provided to more that 120 additional individuals.
Essential duties and responsibilities for Licensed Practical Nurse
- Completion of the admission process for consumers including: Nursing Assessments, Medical Checklist/Physical Health/Nutritional screening, Medication List, Medication Administration Record, vital signs, height/weight, transcribing physician orders, AIMS, and admission notes.
- Observes consumers’ behavior in groups and activities, documenting observations in consumer records.
- Provides direct nursing care, as indicated.
- Transcribes/posts all medication orders to the MAR and acquires medications for the immediate initiation of medications.
- Administers medications, oral and injectable, observing the Five Rights of Medication Administration. Documents appropriately on the Medication Administration Record (MAR). Checks record of allergies before administering medications.
- Provides medication education for the consumer and family, including uses and potential side effects. .
- Communicates effectively with the RN, CRNP and physician regarding the consumer’s physical and mental condition.
- Contacts laboratory, requests and monitor results, and reports all abnormal findings to the physician.
- Provides emergency care as needed (CPR, PRN medications), according to Indian Rivers Mental Health Center Policy and Procedures.
- Demonstrates the ability to recognize the elements of a crisis state and knows how to deescalate or resolve the situation.

Job Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must posses a current LPN license to practice in the state of Alabama.
2. Experience in a mental health setting preferred.
3. Basic knowledge of medical terminology in psychiatric care required.
4. Familiarity of psycho-pharmacy and the use of psychotropic medications with the adult population preferred.
