Position Responsibilities and Job Functions
Lead safety processes, including BAPP®, within the maintenance department.
Initiate controls for safe operation of all plant equipment.
Enforce safety rules, GMP requirements, and uniform dress code as it applies to plant and contractor associates.
Adhere to and administer plant and department policies and procedures to all maintenance associates.
Plan and develop a training process for improving the technical skills and managerial capabilities of the supervisors in order to improve their ability to lead their shifts.
Work with the Maintenance Engineer to refine the skills training programs established to improve the skill levels of maintenance associates to better meet the needs of more sophisticated technology.
Develop and administer a process for skill assessment of all maintenance associates and execute the training programs, both classroom and on-the-job, established for those associates, this includes the need for specialized, machine specific training (OEM) and coordinate within the maintenance team.
Troubleshooting and repair of plant facilities equipment such as the HVAC system, fire alarm and door security systems, elevators, and compressed air systems.
Follow up daily on all lines for downtime problems, quality issues, schedule attainment, including review of LEDS data and other reports from all other shifts.
Assist maintenance associates in making repairs and adjustments to machines and equipment.
Evaluate machine operation and make upgrades for improved performance and operational reliability.
Provide inputs to the Maintenance Engineer to develop and/or modify PM processes and procedures for improved reliability.
Administrates coordination of technical services weekly line assignments, weekly overtime, and vacations among all shifts of technical services, including USOMs & EESOs, in conjunction with Maintenance Engineer and peers in the operations group.
Direct and supervise associates in the absence of shift supervisors, including indirect supervision of weekend maintenance associates through coordination with the weekend production management team, as needed.
Provide back-up support for other maintenance/engineering personnel during periods of vacation, training, or absence, including coverage for the Plant Engineer, when absent.
Monitor associate labor reporting through the computerized payroll timekeeping system, including maintenance of proper records, schedules, and appropriate daily/weekly editing.
Write performance appraisals for management and hourly associates. These appraisals should be written and given in a timely manner.
Foster and develop the active participation of the development of personnel in home teams and focus groups for problem solving and job development.
Communicate with all plant departments to assure cooperation and coordination of services.
Ensure that the planner/schedulers’ effectively manage the work order backlog and schedule manpower, including overtime and contractors, to effectively complete required work.
Organize and oversee machine shop room to inventory and control raw materials and to decrease department costs by utilizing in-house labor skills and equipment or local contracts, when possible, rather than outside purchases.
Provide technical and management expertise on engineering projects as assigned by the Plant Engineer. Plan, organize, direct, and control the efforts of other technical people toward the successful completion of projects. Must control project expenditures, develop, and administer schedules and resolve conflicts that may hinder their successful completion. Provide technical assistance on projects managed by others.
Provide technical and management expertise to the Maintenance Engineer as assigned by the Plant Engineer.
Perform research and design work for projects and/or utilization of updated technologies.
Perform factory acceptance tests and other testing as well as training, troubleshooting, and debugging of assigned projects.
Perform “project management" function when working with Kroger personnel as well as outside consulting firms, when required.
Manage project schedules, coordination of activities, and status updates.
Manage project expenditures including negotiations and vendors and contractors, verification of performance, and punch list administration.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Relationship
Communicate with all plant departments in order to assure cooperation and coordination of services. This would include, but is not limited to, operations, planning, and accounting departments as well as resources from corporate headquarters.
Communicate with suppliers and vendors of supplies, materials, equipment, and parts necessary to maintain the plant. Other contacts would include contractors, outside architects, engineers, or consultants.
Make sure that all resources within the Company are utilized effectively as it relates to assigned projects. This may require contact with organization such as legal, real estate, sales, or product development.

Requirements
Knowledge – A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering or Engineering Technology and/or extensive hands-on experience in maintenance operations and project installations. This position also requires the ability to understand computer applications. This position currently utilizes: Microsoft® Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project and AutoCAD.
