Serving the people of Southwestern Alaska, the Yukon-Kuskokwim Hospital is a 50-bed general acute care medical facility. Fully accredited by JCAHO, services include adult med/surg, pediatrics, obstetrics, emergency room, as well as outpatient family medicine clinics, pharmacy, lab, and imaging. Position Summary: This position is responsible for the day to day operation and management of YKHC's Nicotine Control and Research Programs. Oversees the cessation counseling and nicotine prevention activities of the department. Supervises and conducts grant writing and maintenance. Manages tobacco related budgets, reporting and grant requirements. Supervises and mentors all employees within existing tobacco control programs. Provides direction and training for YKHC clinicians, staff and CHA/Ps on tobacco cessation and tobacco use documentation. Responsible for coordinating all community outreach activities and efforts including education of YK Delta Communities. Travel to villages for outreach activities may be required. May be required to provide support and direction to local capacity efforts aimed at tobacco control policy development. Required to play an active role in the Delta Control Tobacco Alliance (DTCA) and serve in other regional or statewide tobacco initiatives such as ATCA.
Job Requirements
Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in health or related field. A public health masters degree preferred.
Minimum Experience: 2 Years experience in a medical service delivery setting; be familiar with addiction. Experience in research and tobacco control activities preferred. At least one year supervisory experience preferred.
License, Certification, Registration: Must be current if applicable. Alaska State Driver's License.
Equipment/Tools: Proven computer literacy, including Email, Excel and Word.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability and willingness to become trained to be proficient in tobacco cessation theory and counseling. Familiar with behavioral change theories. Prefer experience in writing and maintenance of grants. Prefer experience in management of budgets. Fluent English. Prefer Yup'ik verbal and written communication skills
Supervisory Responsibilities: Coordinates the nicotine control and research services for YKHC. Manages the nicotine control and research staff.
