The Shaw Group provides premier engineering, design, construction, and maintenance services to government and private-sector clients in a wide array of industries, including the energy, environmental, infrastructure, and emergency response markets. We are currently seeking the following Field Engineer � Nuclear Island at our Jenkinsville, SC job site.

Project: VC Summer

The Shaw Group Inc. (NYSE: SGR) and the Nuclear Division of its Power Group and consortium partner Westinghouse Electric Company have been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for two AP1000� nuclear power units by South Carolina Electric & Gas Company, principal subsidiary of SCANA Corporation (NYSE: SCG), and the South Carolina Public Service Authority (Santee Cooper), a state-owned electric and water utility in South Carolina. The two 1,117-megawatt units, which require federal and state regulatory approval prior to construction, will be located at the existing V.C. Summer Nuclear Station near Jenkinsville, S.C. Known as V.C. Summer 2 and 3, the new units are scheduled for completion in 2016 and 2019, respectively.
The EPC contract for V.C. Summer Units 2 and 3 is the second EPC contract for new nuclear power generation awarded to Shaw and Westinghouse.. In April 2008, Georgia Power awarded the companies the first EPC contract for a new nuclear power plant in the United States in more than 30 years.

Position Description:

The AP1000 has been designed to make use of modern, modular construction techniques. The design incorporates vendor-designed skids and equipment packages, as well as large, multi-ton structural modules and special equipment modules. Modularization allows construction tasks that were traditionally performed in sequence to be completed in parallel. The AP 1000 modules are prefabricated in Lake Charles Louisanna by Shaw Modular Solutions, transported to the project in Jenkinsville SC, receipt inspected at site, assembled, prepared for installation, installed and tested in a planned construction schedule of three years - from first concrete pour to fuel load.

The AP 1000 Modular Construction consists of: 122 Structural modules, 154 Piping modules, 55 Mechanical Equipment modules and 11 Electrical Equipment modules.

The QC Supervisor of Modules will be Responsible for performing Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) activities implementing QA programs under the direction of a Quality Control (QC) Manager to oversee and monitor progress and success during the construction of a major Nuclear Power Plant.

Supervises a staff of QC Inspectors and coordinates with the Construction organization for QC personnel inspections and construction monitoring as necessary to verify performance of construction activities to the requisite codes, standards, specifications and drawings.

Ensure through communications with the QC Manager that the project is staffed with an adequate team of qualified inspection and test personnel.

Ensures that the assigned inspection team is provided the requisite project specific indoctrination and training and monitors effectiveness to assess the need for additional or refresher training.

Determines the extent and applicability of the quality program to the Module functional areas and establishes and maintains client relationships to assure free communication of information and reasonable resolution of quality problems so that quality goals are attained with minimal rework and repair.

Provide periodic reports to the Project QC Manager regarding the effectiveness of the quality program.

The QC Supervisor of Modules would be working in the QA/QC organization coordinating work activities within the quality organization and with other organizations such as Safety, Construction Management, Design & Field Engineering, Welding Engineering, Test Organizations, and the Client.

This position will report directly to the Project Quality Control Manager. Candidate may be required to handle Project Quality Control Manager duties for short time periods. Some travel may be required.

Competencies / Experience:

Candidate has experience in the areas of QA/QC activities in Civil/Structural, Mechanical, Piping, Electrical/I&C, Welding, Nondestructive Testing, Receipt, Rigging, Coatings, engineering design, design changes, field change requests, nonconformances, corrective action, procurements, discipline inspections, system/component testing and general construction and project management practices to support receipt, assembly, preparation and testing of Modules for installation to support nuclear power plant construction.

This candidate must have a strong understanding and working knowledge of QA/QC programs and implementation at a nuclear power plant construction site specific to a NQA-1-1994 with 1995 Addenda and 10 CFR Part 50, Appendix B. Should have experience on a previous nuclear construction site(s).

Assure work is correctly implemented in accordance with QA/QC program requirements, applicable codes, and standards and site-specific specifications and requirements.

Review and interpret project drawings and specifications as it relates to AP 1000 Modules and nuclear power plant construction.

Candidate should be able to work outdoors for extended periods of time, able to climb ladder/stairs and may have carry material /equipment weighing up to 15 lbs.

Ability to interpret customer needs, assess requirements and identify solutions to standard and non-standard requests.

Candidate has the ability to solve complex problems. Manages own time to meet agreed targets; develops plans for short-term work activities in own area. This includes providing guidance and mentoring to lesser experienced subordinates.

Intermediate/to advanced knowledge of Microsoft database applications including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and Project Controls scheduling tools like MicroSoft Project Planner or P3. Prior experience review and interpreting complex technical manuals, codes standards and drawings. Ability to review, edit and/or write technical reports.

Qualifications:

This position requires, as a minimum, commensurate education and experience to allow certification as a Level II or III Inspector in accordance with NQA-1 and the Shaw Corporate Quality Assurance Program:

1. Six years of satisfactory performance as a Level II or 15 years of related experience. Both must have related experience in corresponding inspection, examination, or test category or class, or

2. High School Graduation/General Education Development equivalent plus ten years of related experience in equivalent inspection, examination, or testing activities; or High School Graduation/General Education Development equivalent plus eight years experience in equivalent inspection, examination, or testing activities, with at least two years as Level II, and with at least two years associated with nuclear facilities - or - if not, at least sufficient training to be acquainted with the relevant quality assurance aspects of a nuclear facility, or

3. Completion of college level work leading to an Associate Degree and seven (7) years of related experience in equivalent inspection, examination, or testing activities, with at least two (2) years of this experience associated with nuclear facilities, - or - if not, at least sufficient training to be acquainted with the relevant quality assurance aspects of a nuclear facility, or

4. Four year college graduation plus five (5) years of related experience in equivalent inspection, examination, or testing activities, with at least two (2) years of this experience associated with nuclear facilities, - or - if not, at least sufficient training to be acquainted with the relevant quality assurance aspects of a nuclear facility, or

5. Graduate degree plus 3 years of related experience in equivalent inspection, examination, or testing activities with at least two (2) years of this experience associated with nuclear facilities, - or - if not, at least sufficient training to be acquainted with the relevant quality assurance aspects of a nuclear facility.

Required:
