GEO Care, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of The GEO Group, Inc. GEO is a premier provider of behavioral healthcare and other special needs services to state and local government agencies including management and treatment services for forensic and civil mental health hospitals, long-term care and geriatric centers, sex offender and other special needs facilities.
Columbia Regional Care Center in Columbia, South Carolina is managed and operated by GEO Care and is fully licensed and accredited by the National Commission on Correctional Healthcare (NCCHC). Columbia Regional Care Center offers 374 beds providing sub-acute, skilled intermediate and hospice care for conditions such as AIDS, cancer, cardiac disease, dialysis, life support, mental health treatment and special needs programs.
The role of the Nurse Practitioner under the supervision of a licensed Physician(s) is to diagnose, prescribe and treat patients for common, acute ailments at Columbia Care Center. The NP will meet with the other members of the clinical team daily. The Nurse Practitioner role is to initiate assessment, diagnosis and the implementation of a range of care interventions and plans for patient presenting with undifferentiated and undiagnosed health conditions that are within the scope of practice.
- This position has the authority to make medical decisions within the scope of practice defined by licensure, standards established by the licensing boards, and clinical protocols for the scope of practice for the establishes goals and objectives for Columbia Care Center.
- The Clinician provides comprehensive health services to patients under the direction of a supervising physician.
- Adherence to Columbia Care Center policy and procedures expected and affiliated entity policies as applicable. This position works on a regular basis with patients, physician(s) and clinical staff; and with the pharmacies, labs, referring physician(s) and other ancillary providers, Medical Director, Healthcare Administrator and General Manager and / or appropriate affiliate administrative staff. - Interviews and selects prospective staff for patient care positions.
- Assists in the development, maintenance and revision of policies, procedures and directives related to patient care and coordinates with the Healthcare Administrator and the Medical Director.
- Gathers information and prepares monthly reports, verbal and written, as assigned.
- Coordinates the activity of the Lab, X-ray and physical therapy referrals.
- Assists in the coordination of outside consultations and hospitalization of inmates.
Job Requirements
- The Clinician must possess the clinical knowledge of patient care regarding assessment, diagnosis and intervention with an aim to administering appropriate treatment and prescribing appropriate pharmacological agents.
- The Clinician must have the clinical ability to order basic lab tests and diagnostic procedures allowing for the interpretation of results. Other Skills:
- Must have credentials consistent with the South Carolina requirements and an unrestricted license.
- Must possess strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
- The Clinician must be enthusiastic in the delivery of compassionate, quality, patient centered care.
- Must possess a willingness to work with a broad spectrum of patients, in a correctional setting.
- Must have excellent communications skills, effective written skills and customer service skills.
- This position requires weekend call at least monthly and some days weekly.
- Requires a Masters Degree in Nursing, possess an active license as Advanced Practice Nurse in South Carolina, and a minimum of one (1) year of experience practicing medicine.
- Recent experience working in an independent clinical environment is desired.
- Experience in active patient care as a Family Practice nurse practitioner required.
- Experience working in a community health setting with immigrant populations.
- Current certification in basic life support/ACLS
