Job Description
The Specialist Life Sciences-Clinical Orthoptist performs a broad range of duties related to the delivery of care to adult and pediatric patients seen at the U.W. Eye clinic. Patient care would include but not be limited to visual acuity assessment, patient medical history, and instruction to patients and/or parents/guardians. The Orthoptist must also instruct Ophthalmology residents, fellows, medical students and orthoptic students with regard to patient testing data acquired, testing techniques and theory. Data from these examinations is gathered using established testing techniques. The Orthoptist must determine those testing methods most suitable for a particular patient. Data derived from these procedures are presented to the staffing Ophthalmologist to determine diagnosis and treatment plans for the patient. Accuracy and applicability of the patient data gathered is the responsibility of the Orthoptist. Supervision of this individual will be under the Ophthalmology Clinic Manager who will determine and coordinate the day to day assigned duties for this employee.
Schedule/Hours:
Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm
LTE appointment for 2-3 months.
Job Requirements
1. Baccalaureate degree in the biological sciences or related field with evidence of continuing education specifically in ophthalmic care.
2. Certification or eligibility for certification by the American Orthoptic Council as an Orthoptist.
