Role Summary/Purpose The Principal Engineer / Technologist for Battery Modules is a recognized expert in the design of mechanical systems for the packaging and thermal management of high power density energy storage systems. In this role, you will be responsible for the technical quality of the mechanical design of battery systems produced by the GEMx business. Essential Responsibilities

  • Identify, develop, evaluate, and introduce engineering solutions for GEMx battery modules to meet near term and long range business needs
  • Lead and provide the key technical direction to large projects with critical business impact using the GE Transportation Design Review Tollgate Process for New Product Introduction
  • Provide technical consultation and mentoring to cross-functional teams throughout the business to improve or resolve manufacturing, product center, supplier, or field issues, e.g. cost reduction activities, and quality initiatives
  • Support other GE businesses, internal and external customers, and suppliers as required
  • Promote the New Technology Introduction process by defining state-of-the-art high-power battery systems and in anticipating, applying, adapting or developing technology to meet current and future business needs
  • Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers using reports, design guides, and letters
  • Provide mentoring, technical guidance, direction and training to new and experienced engineers
    Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Materials Engineering
  • At least 5 additional years of experience in the mechanical design of subsystems for the packaging and thermal management of power electronic systems Additional Eligibility Qualifications GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen. Desired Characteristics
  • Master’s or PhD degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Materials Engineering
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Problem analysis and resolution skills using Design for Six Sigma methods
  • Knowledge of the design and manufacturing of hermetically-sealed systems
  • Deep understanding of power electronics development cycle including budget and process requirements
  • Up-to-date technical knowledge of the current market, competitor development and the probable future trends in high-power battery systems
  • Lead and provide technical direction using Six Sigma processes / tools
  • Six Sigma DFSS black belt
