Job Description
Our client is looking for a Windows Server Engineer for its NY or Jersey City, NJ location. This is a permanent opportunity with an industry leader in the financial services industry.
The Windows Server Engineer will manage the implementation of trading systems. The Engineer should have expert understanding of Windows 2000/2003 operating system IIS5/6, Com+ and MTS, and Windows/SQL Clustering. Strong knowledge of Active Directory and GPA is a must. The Engineers in this role serve as a liaison between Infrastructure and Application Development regarding the implementation and maintenance of the trading systems. Maintains the operational health of the systems infrastructure and applications hosted within it. Monitors log files, performance issues and the production environment for mission critical systems.
Strong understanding of software architectures, software lifecycle tactic, and system development. Must be able to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences. Needs to have a good understanding and experience of server and client side architectures and systems design. Should have an understanding of current industry trends and their advantages with ability to right fit into an existing environment. Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Understands requested changes to the tool, its configuration and implications to all user areas. Works with all development areas to scope, develop and test approved changes.
Job Requirements
Primary Objective and Role
- Responsible for the providing comprehensive support for design, implementation, and 2nd & 3rd level support of all Windows Systems and its associated infrastructure.
Deliverables
Ø Dedicated subject matter expert for Windows Server platform
Ø Interface with Development for requirement gathering and development of the application architecture.
Ø Working with Development to formulate new application and infrastructure requirements to support new and existing applications.
Ø Determine required hardware/software changes to support infrastructure.
Ø Identify available mechanisms and implement core infrastructure requirements for load-balancing and fail-over of sessions to provide a roadmap to future large scale implementation.
Ø Establish and certify all structured core builds.
Ø Define and implement automated system installation/configuration procedures.
Ø Establish the appropriate environment and project life cycle for Development, Testing, and Deployment.
Ø Create System Run Books, defining day-to-day support, maintenance, troubleshooting of the infrastructure.
Ø Responsible for the support for all Windows Server based applications.
Ø Analysis of existing installations.
Ø Establish performance models and validation techniques.
Ø Establish best practices for monitoring and forecasting of system/application capacity with integration into Argent.
Ø Recommend changes and improvements to the current environment.
Ø Work closely with the Development to ensure the readiness of the applications and the appropriate support are in place.
Ø Document all operational processes and procedures to manage all aspects of the deployed systems.
Knowledge:
Ø Extensive knowledge of MS Based web applications and technologies.
Ø Extensive troubleshooting and performance monitoring skills.
Ø Extensive experience of the following:
o Windows 2000/2003
o IIS 5.0/6.0
o COM+ and MTS
o Windows Cluster Service (SQL)
o AD/GPA
Ø Strong understanding of network infrastructure and systems engineering.
Ø Must understand network architecture and specific network components.
Ø Skilled in the development or re-engineering of systems and processes.
Ø Development and Operations background with excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
Ø Understanding of network communication protocols (TCP/IP etc).
Ø Application load balancing and recovery mechanisms a plus.
Ø Scripting languages: Perl, VB, Batch Scripts a big plus.
Ø Skilled in the development or re-engineering of systems and processes.
Ø Strong knowledge and understand of the following:
o Network communication protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP, SSL/TLS, RMI, RPC, etc).
o Systems and Database (SQL / Oracle) administration is a plus.
Skills:
Ø Excellent project management skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, and good presentation skills.
Ø Strong understanding of project management methodologies and processes.
Ø Excellent time management and organizational skills. Must be able to prepare, present, and maintain technical documentation.
Ø Excellent computer skills are necessary in Microsoft Word, Excel, Presentation, Project, and Visio.
Prior Work Experience:
Ø Extensive Systems Engineering experience within e-commerce or financial services industry with a minimum of 4 years technology related experience.
