Job Description

 Job Summary:  This job is responsible for directing and coordinating members of the care team, focusing on the provision of individualized quality patient care consistent with organizational standards.  Develops the patient plan of care in partnership with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, and patient/family.  This position is responsible for providing routine and emergency hyperbaric treatments to various types of patients seen by Hyperbaric Oxygen Services including critically ill patients, in accordance with accepted protocols.  Incumbents provide care on an emergency call basis in accordance with accepted protocols under the direction of the Program Director and Medical Director.  Essential Duties:

  • Manages and coordinates the care of patients in a defined care delivery model, utilizing the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • Supervises and/or provides all nursing care provided to an assigned patient population. Any delegated care is based on the abilities and limitations of care personnel and patient acuity. Continually monitors the performance of the team members reporting to the RN and adjusts the delivery of care or clinical technique appropriate to the patient.
  • Collaborates and communicates effectively with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Accountable for patient/family education in collaboration with interdisciplinary care team and patient/family.
  • Documents nursing care and patient status in accordance with the nursing process and standards of care.
  • Provides a safe environment and promotes quality patient care through adherence to established standards.
  • Identifies opportunities for and participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Demonstrates competent professional practice, and engages in opportunities for professional growth.
  • Contributes to the productivity and professional environment of the department.
  • Performs related duties as required.
  • Provide care at the surface (sea level) as well as being the inside attendant to depths as far as 3 ATA in a monoplace chamber. 
  • Responsible for total patient care including venipunctures, ear irrigation, invasive and non-invasive monitoring, quality control of equipment, wound care, accurate and timely record keeping, and for the safe performance of hyperbaric oxygen treatments.
  • Participates in program development activities such as physician office visits, in-services and meetings to promote education of the medical community.
  • Assists with obtaining authorizations from insurance agencies.


Job Requirements

Education: 

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. 
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred
Experience:
  • One-year experience within the last three (3) years in an acute care setting preferred.
  • Must have successfully completed a course specific to the topic of hyperbaric medicine or do so within three months of employment in unit.
  • At least one year of critical care experience within the last five years is preferred.
  • Wound care experience preferred.
License/Certification:
  • Current State Licensure as a Registered Nurse required.
  • BLS required.
  • Certification in Hyperbaric Nursing (CHRN) or attainment within 24 months of hire is preferred
