Medical Center of Lewisville - Lewisville The PCU RN manages the nursing care of critically ill patients in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization. The tasks and responsibilities include: 1. Participates in hospital or departmental performance improvement activities. 2. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care needs of the patient. 3. Document nursing care in compliance with policies procedures and practices established by the Nursing Department and the hospital. 4. Initiates prescribed treatment plan. 5. Initiate and carry out nursing plan of care. 6. Administers standard medications, blood and blood products. 7. Provides for activities of daily living for patients. 8. Transport patients. 9. Maintenance of peripheral, central, and picc lines. 10. Identification of potential and actual life threatening dysrhythmias, 11. Emergent management of patients with life threatening dysrhythmias. 12. Management of cardiac specific pharmacological agents. 13. Management of actively dying patients providing comfort measures as needed for each patient. 14. Participation in discharge planning. 15. Provision of emotional support for patients and families based on the assessments of their coping skills. 16. Performance of nursing care in compliance with safety policies and procedures established by the hospital and Nursing Department. 17. Perform special assignments as needed/requested. 18. Serves as a clinical resource to department staff, students, volunteers and other departments, and contributes to the teamwork essential to ensuring quality patient care 19. Attend staff meetings and inservices.
Job Requirements
Required Job Qualifications include: 1. Education a. Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. 2. Experience: a. Previous clinical experience preferred. 3. Specific Requirements: a. Licensed to practice as an RN in the state of Texas. b. Current BLS Certification or attainment immediately after hire. c. Current ACLS status or attainment within 6 months of date of hire. d. Demonstrated experience in related clinical area or demonstrated ability to acquire new skills. e. Possess the ability to deal tactfully with physicians, associates, patients, families and other customers. f. Clinically proficient in nursing skills, demonstrating knowledge of the developmental needs of the adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. .
