AgroFresh (a division of Dow AgroSciences LLC) has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a Sr. Formulation Chemist to develop novel formulations with a new technology for agricultural use. Formulations developed by this position will likely use novel techniques due to unique formulation characteristics of the active ingredients. Successful formulations will be field tested and developed to support the AgroFresh business globally. It is expected that this position will produce several patents out of the research, which help protect this unique and potentially highly profitable business. Responsibilites Include: Work with in-house scientists and external cooperators to identify promising formulation areas. Pursue these areas using investigative formulation techniques and refine candidate formulation technologies using innovative processes. Use formulation evaluation processes to isolate best candidates for field evaluation and registration. Work with field scientists to evaluate optimum delivery systems and to evaluate formulation parameters related to commercialization. Primary responsibilities include: Conduct research to produce novel formulation candidates (60%) Literature research to determine potential technology to be applied Prepare prototype formulations Full physical/chemical parameter analysis and characterization Stability testing and analysis Spray testing in lab and fields Field trial support Patent applications (10%) Evaluate patent literature Record concepts, test results and analysis Assist legal department in writing patent applications Commercial Formulation Development (20%) Provide documentation and procedures to scale up samples MSDS preparation Assist regulatory in dossier preparation Assist manufacturing in procedure analysis and start up
Job Requirements
Required: MSc or PhD in Chemistry or related field 5-10 yrs Experience in formulation research ( development) (Agriculture or Pharma) Demonstrated experience in solid and liquid formulation chemistry Knowledge of surfactants, emulsions and polymeric interactions. Fluency in the English language Other skills: Knowledge of EPA regulatory guidelines and latest updates on inerts / adjuvants Experience in solids, aqueous and oil based formulation Working knowledge of processing equipments for both solid and liquid formulations. Familiar with analytical techniques to characterize formulations, such as particle sizing distribution, rheology, etc. Independent thought, high creativity, problem solving, tenacious The successful candidate will have demonstrated success in formulation chemistry. Excellent written and oral communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced team environment is essential. This position will involve domestic travel and some international travel is possible. Candidates must recognize the importance of promoting a strong culture of employee health and safety.
