Student Financial Aid - Coordinator
Position is responsible for interviewing students applying for financial aid, such as loans, grants-in-aid, or scholarships, to determine eligibility for assistance in college or university. Incumbent must assure that the EDMC philosophy: quality services to clients; development, growth, involvement, and recognition of employees; sound economic principles; and environment which is conducive to innovation, positive thinking and expansion - is considered in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of this position.
Key Job Elements:
- Confers with individuals and groups to disseminate information and answer questions relating to financial assistance available to students enrolled in college or university.
- Interviews students to obtain information needed to determine eligibility for aid.
- Compares data on students' applications, such as proposed budget, family income, or transcript of grades, with eligibility requirements of assistance program.
- Calculates the amount of aid, considering such factors as funds available, extent of demand, and needs of students and submits to Assistant Director for approval to process.
- Processes the release of funds to students and prepares required records and reports.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Job Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
- Knowledge:
a) Bachelor’s degree required with a master’s degree in a related field desirable
b) Two or more years of solid experience in financial aid or student accounts preferably in a post-secondary institution.
- Skills:
a) Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
b) Strong interpersonal skills with both faculty and student populations.
c) Superior organizational and problem resolution skills.
d) Strong basic computer software (MS Office) skills as well as exposure to more concentrated financial aid software programs such as Banner.
- Abilities:
a) Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
b) Ability to interact effectively as a member of a team and work collaboratively with other departments.
c) Ability to listen to customers (e.g. students, staff, etc.) and to understand and respond positively to their requests
d) Ability to work without close supervision and to set one’s own priorities and work schedule.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate professionally in person, over the telephone, through email and other electronic means, move about the office or school, handle various types of media and equipment, and visually or otherwise identify, observe and assess. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 10 pounds unless otherwise specified in the job description.
