Job Description

We are seeking a leader, Senior Server Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the Servers and Systems Management area. The selected individual will have extensive experience in server architectures, storage architectures, virtualization, clustering, tools, monitoring and have knowledge of best practices and lessons learned from large scale enterprise deployments. This individual will fill a key technology leadership role. The successful candidate will have experience leading the server technical teams and guiding high availability architectures for a large enterprise. Salary Negotiable.

The successful candidate will perform as part of the Server Services team for an infrastructure services contract in Alexandria, VA. The program is responsible for network engineering, network management, VoIP, all production servers (Windows/UNIX/Linux including File/Print and application servers), storage/backups, BCP, Service Desk, Desktop Support, Patch management, and remote access services.
This position requires excellent and proven attention to detail, process and discipline for production environment IT Operations and a willingness to work in a complex and dynamic environment. It requires the commitment to completing the job on time with quality results. A commitment to overall job success and task ownership utilizing and working with the Server Services team is required.
Individual should possess 15+ years in IT in positions of increasing responsibility, including leading teams of 5-10 people. Minimum of 7 years in areas as described below. We are only interested in individuals who have worked in large scale high availability computing environments (5000 seats, 500+ servers, 200TB+). Candidates should possess excellent communications skills and leadership qualities.

The candidate must demonstrate sound technical skills. The following will be of significant value:

  • Server and systems management best Support of enterprise production environments
  • Support of enterprise production environments
    1. Windows servers
    2. UNIX servers
    3. Storage (SAN/NAS)
    4. Data backup environment (SAN, NAS, Virtual Tape, individual Server)
    5. Messaging, including eMail, vaulting, encrypted eMail services, eMail
    6. Core services (File, Print, DNS, DHCP)
  • Messaging, including eMail, vaulting, encrypted eMail services, eMail protection (anti-virus and spam) â€" Exchange 2003 â€" Clustered & non clustered
  • Server consolidation and optimization
  • Technology Refresh planning/execution (Replace, Upgrade, Patch)
  • Project Management - PMP preferred
  • Process Management â€" Process Maturity, ITIL/ITSM/CMMI preferred
    1. SDLC (Requirements, Architecture, Design…..)
    2. Documentation
    3. Continuous Improvement
    4. Best Practice Assessment
  • SLA management
    1. Availability
    2. Problem resolution
    3. Incident response/Escalation
    4. Performance
    5. Metrics, Measurement (logs, scripts, alerting)
  • Customer service discipline will be key to success.
  • Business case development - case/ROI for new solutions
  • Management of geographically distributed sites/locations
  • Working knowledge of network and information security disciplines

  • Symantec Enterprise Vault (eVault)
  • EMC Storage (Clarion, Centera, DMX)
  • EMC Control Center
  • NetApp storage
  • Cloverleaf storage
  • Veritas Backup Solutions (NetBackup and BackupExec)
  • Help desk (prefer Front Range ITSM)
  • Cisco ASA
  • Management of Web servers and services
  • Security solutions (RSA, Firewalls)
  • Monitoring and management solutions (performance, capacity, availability)
  • Ex: Big Brother and NetIQ
  • Virtualization (vmWare, etc.)

    Job Requirements

  • Demonstrated expertise with service delivery in an enterprise server environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft server technologies (Windows, Exchange, MS/SQL, AD).
  • Demonstrated experience with major storage technologies.
  • Demonstrated expertise with Microsoft Office Suite including Microsoft Project
  • Certification in at least one of the following:
    o Microsoft MCSE
    o EMC ISM
    o Sun Certified System Administrator
