Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
· B.S. degree in Accounting or Finance required.
· Two years experience in specialized accounting areas of taxation and exempt organizations required.
· Hospital based experience is preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
· CPA preferred.
Other Qualifications:
· Strong verbal and written communication skills; analytical and interpretive skills preferred.
Summary: Responsible for the preparation and filing of tax and information returns and reports as required by Federal, State and Local taxing authorities for WVUHS and subsidiary companies as assigned. Maintains knowledge of current tax laws and guidance and applies them appropriately within the WVUHS organization. Performs a wide range of professional accounting functions, in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), to support the month-end financial statement process of WVUH. Completes documentation and schedules during WVUH month-end, budget preparation and external audit. Provides financial guidance to WVUH department managers to help control costs and provide hospital-wide efficiencies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1) Prepare and file accurate tax and information returns for WVUHS and subsidiary companies as assigned with Federal, State and Local taxing authorities in a timely manner.
2) Review tax filings of other WVUHS subsidiary companies to ensure consistency in tax reporting throughout the System. Provide feedback to applicable CFO’s.
3) Prepare and file tax refund claims for WVUH as assigned.
4) Provide guidance related to areas of taxation to other WVUHS subsidiary companies.
5) Coordinate and maintain community benefit reporting at WVUH. Provide education regarding community benefit reporting to other WVUHS companies as requested.
6) Maintain knowledge of current tax laws and guidance impacting WVUHS and subsidiary companies. Apply the laws and guidance appropriately with respect to all tax matters within the System.
7) Maintain general ledger in order to complete and submit accurate financial data during month-end process according to predetermined deadlines. Investigate and communicates variance issues to supervisor/manager of the department and Controller.
8) Develop strong relationship with Department managers to help coordinate and monitor financial controls over the hospital’s cost centers according to approved budget guidelines.
9) Evaluate financial processes to maximize efficiency in the daily accounting operations. Ensure that internal control measures are being followed.
10) Develop and submit analytical financial data as needed by supervisor or department director/manager.
11) Assist in completing and compiling financial support documentation for budget and external audit purposes.
12) Participate in educational opportunities as provided by the hospital to enhance skill related abilities.
13) Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor.
14) Support performance improvement and quality assurance initiatives.
