Job Description
Tribal Administer Job Opportunity The Chilkoot Indian Association located in Haines, Alaska, is seeking a professional public administrator to serve as the senior administrative officer for the Tribe. The Tribal Administrator (TA) is appointed by the Tribal Council and is responsible for the Mgmt of the Tribal Government and all of its sub-units in accordance w/ the Tribal Constitution, applicable Federal laws, and the Tribal Strategic Plan. The TA ensures that the vision, mission, and core values of the Tribe are expressed through all aspects of its operations. The Tribal Administrator will maintain a professional attitude and working environment for the Chilkoot Indian Association, its employees and its Tribal members at all times. Qualified applicants will have demonstrated experience in the following: OPERATIONS AND STRATEGY F Oversee all Tribal programs and operations. F Oversee the strategic planning process w/ the Council, Tribal, and community members and the implementation and evaluation of the strategic plan. F Develop, implement, and evaluate policies, procedures, objectives, and action plans of the Tribal government. FINANCE AND GRANTS F Assure that general funds programs, indirect cost proposals, and contract and grant proposals are submitted in compliance w/ Tribal and Federal guidelines. F Expand revenue base through earned income, government contracts, competitive and non-competitive grants, and private foundations. COMMUNICATIONS F Represent the Tribe in all public appearances to promote services and generate support. A bachelors degree in Public Administration, Business, or a related field is required; Masters preferred. Demonstrated grant management experience is required. (3) to (5) yrs of executive level Mgmt exp. About the Tribe: The Chilkoot Indian Association represents a Native Sovereign Nation of Tlingit people. Through its $2 million plus annual operating budget, it provides programs in housing, transportation, and environmental services. The Tribe currently is in the construction phase of a 34 unit subdivision, Chilkoot Estates, and will soon be working w/ community partners in the development of the Tanani Village/former Army tank farm industrial area. The Tribe has a F/T staff of six and contracts w/ local construction companies for services. Compensation and Benefits: Salary is commensurate w/ exp. starting in the low to mid 70s.
