Wesley Nurse - RN Summary:

Plans, assesses, develops, implements and evaluates holistic health and wellness programs.

The position is designed to promote collaboration with and facilitation of individuals, congregations, and communities in the achievement of their health through the provision of high quality professional nursing care to support the efforts of all staff to include Wesley Nurse Health Ministries™, Methodist Healthcare Ministries, as well as other agencies and organizations throughout the community to meet the Mission, Key Objectives and Core Values of the organization.

Candidates are employed by Methodist Healthcare Ministries with selection and evaluation input from the individual church pastor and health committee members

The position is site specific to the assigned church.

The position will be deemed closed when the partner church site is no longer considered a Wesley Nurse site according to the terms and agreements outlined in the memorandum of agreement between the specific church site and MHM.
Essential Duties:

The Wesley Nurse is expected to participate in the life and activities of the congregation as a partner ofthe church staff. It is expected that the nurse’s activities will be influenced and defined by the uniqueneeds of the congregation of the participating church. These activities include, but shall not be limited to the following:

Serves as Health and Wellness Services Coordinator, Health and Wellness Educator and Advocate and, Care Giver: In this role the Wesley Nurse will function to the full extent of the RN License under the supervision of a medical director and in compliance with the policies and scope of clinical practice that guide the provision of nursing services for the professional registered nurse and the Wesley Nurse Health Ministries™.

Utilizes nursing interventions of education, counseling, advocacy, referral, and collaboration to facilitate health and wellness of individuals and groups in congregation/community settings.

Serves as a community resource. Collaborates with community services and agencies in order to make appropriate referrals.

Serves as a liaison between church members and community agencies when needed.

Recruits and coordinates volunteers who provide support to church members in identified areas of need.

Facilitates the creation of support groups within the congregation and community.

Participates in a health committee, which serves as a resource in defining and evaluating the Wesley Nurse’s activities.

Maintains appropriate records and statistical data necessary to document the functions and activities of the Wesley Nurse.

Performs other duties as assigned.
To Methodist Healthcare Ministries:
The Wesley Nurse - RN is expected to participate in the operation and activities of the Wesley Nurse Program appropriate to this position and to be a representative of the MHM. Such activities may include, but shall not be limited to the following:

Participate fully in the peer group process designed to foster personal and spiritual development.

Attends the educational sessions which are provided in response to the identified learning needs.

Gives and receives professional support to and from the peer group and MHM multidisciplinary staff.

Maintains appropriate statistical data and reports to enable the management associated with the Wesley Nurse Health Ministries™ to provide ongoing training and supervision to the Wesley Nurse.

Participate in Quality Improvement initiatives.

Participate in new program initiatives that support current nursing research and evidence based practice.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

Registered Nurse, graduate from an accredited school of nursing.

Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Nursing preferred.

Five years clinical and/or community health nursing experience preferred.
Language Ability:
-
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
-
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
-
Fluent in English. Bilingual with Spanish preferred.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have working knowledge of the Internet, Outlook, Power Point, Word processing software and Excel spreadsheet software.
