While many students and federal government employees have Columbus Day off work, for the majority of workers Columbus Day is just like any other work day. Every year, Columbus Day is celebrated on the second Monday of October in recognition of Christopher Columbus’s arrival to the Americas on October 12, 1492. Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer in the late 1400s and early 1500s. In his famous Columbus Day expedition, Christopher Columbus sailed across the Atlantic Ocean with a crew of 90 men in search of a trade route to India.
